lucky penny.

last night i dreamt there were pennies on every sidewalk.

I saw just one shining at first

and when i bent down to pick it up

and put it safely in my pocket like always

i saw they lined the entire block.

Every step held a new penny

for as far as i could see.

I slid the original one in my pants pocket

and slowly followed the trail.

The pennies got brighter and brighter

and as much as i wanted to find the source of them

to make sure someone wasn't playing a trick on me

i didn't rush up ahead

or try to collect all of them at once.

i only needed one.

I think that was the first and only dream 

i've ever had

where i woke up

and didn't feel deprived of a thing.
